Biography
Dr Alice Maynard is founder and managing director of Future Inclusion (www.futureinclusion.com). Future Inclusion specialises in addressing the barriers in systems, processes and culture that disadvantage people, and in developing capacity within organisations to address inclusion issues more effectively and independently.
Alice's consultancy experience spans over 10 years and she has worked with clients from public, private and voluntary sectors. She was closely involved in the Equality Impact Assessment for Crossrail, has undertaken Disability Impact Assessments for a range of organisations and was on the Steering Group for the Gender Audit of Public Transport.
Alice has a first degree from York University, an MBA from Ashridge and an Executive Doctorate (DBA) from Cranfield University. Her doctoral research focused on access to transport for disabled people in economic appraisal.
Biography
Simon has planned and managed major projects for nearly twenty years. He has been involved in setting precedent, standards and good practice in equality impact assessment, inclusive consultation and consents processes using new and innovative techniques.
He has produced EqIA Manager's Guidance and major equality impact assessments for Crossrail, West London Tram, East London Line Project and London Underground's Investment Programme.
NOMIS were responsible for designing and delivering the consultation programmes for Crossrail and have delivered 11 major events including two national conferences and 5 target group consultations. NOMIS are now organising, hosting and chairing the EqIA Public Sector Round Table in collaboration with Dr Alice Maynard of future inclusion.
Biography
Shar provides co-ordination of NOMIS assignments and design and delivery of inclusive events. This has included the production of the Crossrail Race and Equality Impact Assessments, TfL's Age Positive Equality Scheme and Equality Impact Assessments on West London Trams, London Underground's PPP Investment Programme, the East London Line Project and an EqIA Manager's Guide.
Other activities include the design and delivery of the first consultation events in the transport industry for target groups, analysis of comment from consultation events such as that for TfL's Age Positive Equality Scheme and Gender Equality Scheme and research into examples of 'Positive Action' for under represented groups in the workplace.
Biography
Ashley has led the collection and management of land information in support of the promotion of major infrastructure and development projects for the past 15 years. These have seen the employment of increasingly sophisticated methods as the enabling technology has developed.
The use of web-based databases and GIS now underpins this process allowing information to be shared across all disciplines involved. Current land information management clients (land referencing, consultation, data management and research) include Network Rail, Northern Ireland Roads Service, TfL, Cross London Rail Links, Transport Scotland, BP, Bord Gais, the Highways Agency, a wider variety local authorities and development agencies throughout Britain and Ireland, Natural England, Waterways Ireland, the Irish National Roads Authority and a variety of private developers.
Biography
Audrey Young joined the Greater London Authority (GLA) in September 2002 as the Head of Diversity Performance. She has worked predominantly in the voluntary and community sector over the last twenty years in London and Liverpool.
Audrey worked for National Council for Voluntary Organisations in their Urban Policy Unit in with the remit for engaging black communities in regeneration. She was the Director of a European Union funded poverty project in Toxteth, Liverpool tackling poverty and exclusion of black communities. She has been a volunteer and management committee member of Amadudu, a black women's refuge and Liverpool Black Sisters, a black women's self help group.
Prior to joining the GLA she worked for Liverpool Social Services in their training and performance management section focusing on improving outcomes for black children.
Her role at the GLA is to steer, develop and be a resource for the GLA to deliver the Mayor's vision for diversity and equality in London. She has been instrumental in developing a robust performance management framework where every part of the organisation takes responsibility for equalities.
Biography
Bruce Davidson is a Partner with ERM and has 15 years of experience in the field of impact assessment. Bruce has led Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEAs) for numerous high profile infrastructure proposals. Bruce leads ERM's strategic environmental assessment (SEA) service area. He has led several high profile SEAs recently, including ones for the Scottish Executive's draft SSP6 on Renewable Energy, Strathclyde Partnership for Transport's Regional Transport Strategy and the Welsh Assembly Government's Heads of the Valleys Regeneration Strategy. Bruce also served on the UK Nuclear Decommissioning Authority's Project Steering Board for the development of its Decommissioning Strategy in 2005, advising specifically on SEA compliance matters.
Bruce has undertaken many environmental appraisals of policies, plans and strategies in accordance with the UK Government's New Approach to Appraisal (NATA). He was responsible for ERM's inputs to the Government's Guidance on the Methodology for Multi-Modal Studies (GOMMMS, now referred to as Transport Analysis Guidance). He is currently leading ERM's work for Transport for London with respect to the Health Impact Assessment and Equality Impact Assessment of an extension of the Docklands Light Railway to redevelopment sites in the Dagenham Docks area.
Bruce was recently a guest speaker of the Chinese State Environmental Protection Agency at its International SEA Conference in Beijing, speaking on the subject of the SEA of Transport Plans.
Biography
David Bailey was born in Kent and educated in that County. He then went on to qualify as an Estate Management Surveyor. He has extensive experience in property maintenance and new builds as diverse as business start up units and Gypsy Travellers sites.
David has experience of working in the public sector having worked for the Greater London Council, London Borough of Lewisham, Essex County Council, South Cambridgeshire District Council and Cambridgeshire County Council before taking up his current role.
From 1999 he has worked for FDC leading on all corporate equality, and community diversity issues.
David has received a number of equality awards. Most recently being the recipient of a Yellow Rose Award for continued work in the field of diversity and commitment to support of Romany Gypsies and Irish Travellers. This award was presented to him jointly by the Irish Traveller Movement (UK) and the International Gypsy and Traveller Affairs Organisation.
Biography
Elizabeth works as a Transport Planner in the Policy and Strategy Directorate of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT). She is involved in developing the Regional Transport Strategy (RTS), dealing with planning applications, responses to consultations, and project development. SPT developed an Equality Impact Assessment for the RTS, and Elizabeth is keen to mainstream EqIA throughout SPT's project planning delivery process.

Gavin Moore works for the Equality and Human Rights Division within the Welsh Assembly Government. His current areas of work include producing the Annual Report on Equality under section 77 of the Government of Wales Act 2006, rolling out the Inclusive Policy Making process across the Welsh Assembly Government and taking forward the Accessible Venues Group to promote the use of accessible venues in Wales.
Biography
Jo is currently working with Norfolk County Council, with a specific remit for strategic equalities and organisational change. Prior to this Jo has worked for a variety of different organisations across London, the North East and Europe, as both an equalities professional and strategic planner.
Jo has extensive experience of designing and implementing equality impact assessments in a number of authorities. She has a particular interest in managing equality impact assessment as a process of organisational change, and repositioning the assessment methodology as a business tool to inform strategic and high level service planning.
Jo has broad experience of interpreting and implementing the Equality Standard for Local Government, and the use of media and involvement techniques to get 'buy in' for equalities and community cohesion. She has over 10 years experience of policy and service design in a public authority setting.
Jo has contributed to a range of Best Practice publications on equalities and cohesion, including the IDeA, Home Office and the former equality commissions.
Biography
Nick leads the operations of all projects being undertaken in the South of England. As a member of the Compulsory Purchase Association and along with 15 years experience in the land services area he has been involved in the vast majority of the major transport infrastructure projects undertaken during this period.
Projects are currently being undertaken on behalf of Network Rail, TfL, Cross London Rail Links as well as local authorities and private companies which require consultation with a wide variety of stakeholders and the management of land information in preparation for Transport & Works Act, CPO and Hybrid Bill submissions.
Biography
With a background in law and politics Bano’s policy based doctoral thesis developed a European comparative on issues of social exclusion, BME communities and faith. In 2004 Bano set up Vis-à-Vis RC Ltd – a research consultancy that works with the public sector to develop policies and strategies through indepth social impact analysis and democratisation. In so doing, Bano combines policy expertise with academic rigor to further her passion for giving voice to marginalised and vulnerable communities. Her recent work has included facilitation of the Citizens Inquiry into the National DNA Database, development of policy and action planning for Local Authority attainment of Equality Standards and delivery of capacity building to over 150 BME Voluntary and Community Sector Organisations for the HMRC. In addition to this Bano is also the founding Director of the Institute and Learning and Mentoring which supports young people from between the ages of 7-19 in academic, personal and career development in Blackburn. Of the 70 young people active at ILM, Bano provides direct tuition and mentoring support to 20.
Bano sits on the Advisory Board of the Wilton Park British-German Forum and the Advisory Panel for the Joseph Rowntree foundation project: Rhythms and Realities. She is the Co-Executive Director of the national Muslim Womens Network and the Strategic Director for Children and Young People at the Lancashire Council of Mosques.

Leonie specialises in landowner and public consultation for major development and infrastructure projects. Leonie has been involved in and been responsible for the design, evaluation, implementation and management of consultation strategies for major infrastructure projects throughout the UK and holds a leading role in public consultation within LandAspects. Leonie also has significant experience in land referencing, gathering and managing data to support the submissions of compulsory purchase orders, Transport and Works Act orders, hybrid bills and Scottish private bill processes. Currently Leonie is responsible for ensuring all LandAspects activities are completed in a manner that promotes equality, inclusion and accessibility. Current clients include, TfL, Cross London Rail Links, Transport Scotland, Scotland Transerv and the Northern Ireland Roads Service.
Biography
Amanda is a Principal Sustainability Consultant and Team Leader for the Planning and Consultation, Land & Environment Team at Mouchel’s London office. She has provided 10 years’ of sustainability and environmental services in the UK and internationally. She has successfully project managed and contributed to a number of high profile projects including Sustainability Appraisal’s of the City of London’s Core Strategy and of the North London’s Waste Plan, sustainability assessments on large regeneration and master planning developments, climate change management in the printing industry and environmental impact assessments on major facilities such as energy from waste plants. Clients have been both Local Government, TfL, developers, energy companies, trade federations and several private companies. Amanda was also Mouchel’s Environmental Management System Manager and successfully developed and implemented the corporate EMS to ISO 14001.
